I have my own domain and a mailserver and a few people who get their mail at this address. I use somebody else to host my site and mailserver but they don’t do a very good job with spam. WHat steps could I take to fight the spam that comes to my mail server? Any recommendations on free/inexpensive software?
Thanks

First is I will suggest you remove any email on your website that can be an easy target for spammers. Also instead of using “@” and “.” on every email you post on your website or other site type this instead “@” for [at] and “.” for dot. This is a step to block your mail from spammers.
Also have your mail server filter through your mail for some certain words that could be consider as a spam. Also when sending out information that include your email, use an auto respond email like info, contact instead of real user name.
