Is the number difference just for some marketing reason? Denon lists them both at their web site. Aside from simple differences, do they have the same insides? The wattage is the same for both. Thanks for your help.
Is the Circuit City Denon AVR-887 the same quality as Denon AVR 2307ci?

The small difference between the Denon AVR-2307CI (“CI” = Custom Integration) and AVR-887 audio/video receivers is strictly a matter of connectivity and control. The Denon AVR-2307CI is equipped with an RS-232C port for use with an external controller (such as those used in home automation systems) as well as a 12 VDC trigger out option.
The Denon AVR-2307CI is also equipped with a dedicated ZONE2 pre-amp line OUT connection for independent stereo audio playback in a separate listening “zone.” The multi-zone feature of the AVR-887 receiver is limited to using the main SPEAKER OUT surround channels to feed audio to a second listening zone. Using the multi-zone implementation of the AVR-887 receiver will reduce the surround sound configuration by two channels, e.g., from 7.1 to 5.1.
Also, the Denon AVR-2307CI also uses an IEC 60320 style AC power connection, i.e. C17 style AC power cord and C18 style inlet connector on the chassis as opposed to the captive AC power cord on the AVR-887 receiver.
For the average consumer the differences would be fairly inconsequential and not worth a $100 price premium.
Personally I highly recommend waiting for the ’08′ and ’08CI’ series Denon A/V receivers which should be available within the next month or two.
