Try the community sites: craigslist.com, myspace.com, friendster.com, yahoo groups, directmatches.com. Be sure to leave links to the skateboard site in every community you visit.
Also do a search on “free classified” and use some of those free classified sites. Get creative with your advertising verbiage to draw as many people as possible.

Since you already have the site up and running, you really do not need to spend much of anything except a little time working with the free resources. That is where the traffic will come from.
First, set-up a blog on that domain – usually built-in to your hosting tools (cPanel with Fantastico has 1 button installation of Worpress). Or add a Yahoo 360 or Blogspot blog and update them regularly. Make sure the blogs have links back to your main site.
Next, go straight to Squidoo and start a lens on skateboarding based on the most popular keywords. Make sure you add the “tags” or keywords based on the most popular keywords that are being searched for online. I would use the top ones that are focused on what your site can provide a solution for. Also add about 20 long tail keyword tags (3 word phrases, etc) based on your keyword search. Link this site back to your main site with anchor text hyperlinks (ex. “skateboarding accessories” hyperlinked back to your site). Update this Squidoo lens about twice weekly and if you know how, add an RSS feed from your blog to it. Over time, add other Lenses related to more specific skateboard topics.
Next, do free ads. Start with Craigslist (make sure you read the terms of service and rules). Then go to USFreeAds and do the same. It has a Premium version that gives you unlimited ads and autorenew, so you can set them up and never mess with it again.
Next, go to 3 social bookmarking sites and start bookmarking your Squidoo lens, your helpful blog posts, and your pages on your main site. Delicious, Digg, etc. Be sure to add a few bookmarks for some of your other favorite sites too so that it doesn’t look like you are just doing it for your own sake.
Stay focused and set aside 30-60 minutes per day updating 2 or 3 of these sites (Squidoo, blog, bookmarks, classifieds). Once you have the habit and you have the time, join some other social networking sites and hyperlink them with anchor text back to your Squidoo lens and blog posts.
Consistency is the key.

After an initial review of your son’s opening webpage, there appears to be a number of major SEO problems will result in your son’s website given a low ranking – spamdexing of keywords and a non-generic entry. The following is a review of current metatags along with suggested Improvements thereto:
A. Current: Sudden Death Skateboards
Improvement [with removal of the domain name since it's an unknown brand and in its place keeps the generic product and add the business location. Don't you think that "Sudden Death" as a description, is a rather bleak and disturbing image for such a popular outdoor activity, and is worthy to be removed as a domain name]: Skateboarding, Skateboards, online company, McKinney, Texas
B. Current:
B. Improvement [with deletion of all duplicate spamdexed entries]:
Furthermore, the above Improved Keywords still needs more whittling down to no more than 15-20 entries, plural tenses and compound — at the very least.
C. Current:
Improvement [where's the single 25-30 word single paragraph that best describes what you are offering. Again, not a listing of words or phrases]_____________
Hopefully you can incorporate the above Improvements in your son’s opening webpage by removal of all spamdexed metatag entries. Should anyone report these discrepancies, your son’s website could be removed from major search indexing and ranking consideration. And with the removal, there’s no Net traffic, nada!
