Why is my Access Database file so big in file size?

I have created a basic telephone database at work, i have noticed that the file size is a lot bigger than another database a friend has created, which has huge amounts of information in it, very complex with loads of tables, queries and data in it.
What could i have done wrong, do you compact them down or something?
When trying to email this file home, it bounces back saying the file is too large, yet the huge database file has no problem? (this is when i realized the difference in file sizes)

    Hello –

When you create a database there are a lot of little system details that are stored in the file with it so it is much larger than the data it contains.

If you go to the Tools tab on the main menu bar it has “Database Utilities …” select “Compact and Repair Database …” this should help with the size problem.

    Best of luck,

Databases zip very well. Zip the file and send it. It should be small enough.
