Somehow I got on AOL and thought I was upgrading my AIM instant messenger. Somehow I deleted the AIM Instant Messenger. Now I can’t get my AIM messenger back. I tried removing AOL and the computer tells me I do not have any versions of AOL installed. But I cannot get my AIM messenger back except thru AOL and I understand that they will bill me eventually for their services. I have tried downloading the AIM messenger but it always asks for a screen name and password. I do not remember the original screen name and password and to get AOL to give you the password it looks like I would have to go to AOL as my internet provider. I have a Dell computer–Windows XP. I am 79 years old and really do not understand what is going on as I only use the computer for playing Literati and emails. Please won’t someone help me? If you have an email address for AOL, please send it so that I can notify them that I do not want their internet service. Thanks so much. hcooper547@hotmail.com

My father just received a second letter from our cable provider regarding my delinquent brother downloading movies. They state they were notified by the RIAA (or some similar group) a second time about an illegal download and if it happens one more time the cable company will be forced to shut off our service. We depend on this company for TV, phone as well as internet so switching companies will be costly and a pain.
My dad wants to just get rid of the internet service but I’d really rather not have to go to my neighbors or the library to check email or pay bills when I get back from college for the summer.
We were promised after the first letter that the downloads would stop but obviously my brother can’t be trusted. Is there any simple way to throttle these large downloads from the router side? (rather than on his laptop). Ideally such a product could identify large downloads but not impact online gaming or legal downloads via the playstation network.
i was with aol to provide my internet service I moved house in October 2008 the telephone was disconneted to my horror my husband just mentioned when I complained about aol free email
he said cancel subsciption from his account which was being taken each month since
oct 2008 he had not realised I no longer used them as a provider .
When I asked aol why they were still claiming money they said even though they had the a to call to cancel I agreed to have one month free to see if I would need the service even though I had explained the new house already had a provider that because I did not ring again (what for I had cancelled) they provided me with a service.
even agreeing I had no usage on the account
service to a house that was sold with no telephone (I think not) and that I am liable for the service cost for the last 15 months.
this is an extract of mail from aol
You were then in contact on the 23rd of October, as you had recieved an email about the package change, the cancellations agent you were speaking to advised you of the free month, and the fact you were not in contract, and advised you to get in contact with us to activate your broadband services once you were live at your new address.
What is the connection between: being unable to receive or send emails, unable to connect to internet radio, and slow internet connection? In our company, our computers (mac and PC) are connected through an Ethernet (hob) network and to the internet (DSL). For several month it’s been awfully slow. At the same time, we’re unable to receive or send emails through programs like Apple Mail, Thunderbird or Outlook and also unable to connect to internet radio with iTunes or Real player. We’ve called our DSL provider but haven’t resolved this problem yet. In our building there are several other business and offices. The telephone line from the street that supplies telephone service to different businesses, connect our business and then distributes to the others. All the business have independent telephone accounts. An interesting fact is that this problem occurs mostly during daytime. After 6:00 pm when most of the other business are closed, everything return to normal.

I want to point all my internet traffic though a proxy so it looks like it is from another country. I want all my internet traffic, including stuff like Steam, Msn, chat etc to go through the proxy. I am sick of seeing stuff on internet websites saying “This is not available in you area”. If need be I have access to web hosting, if I need to install a proxy or something.
