I have had my internet service for maybe 3 months and recently opened a bank account (month maybe). There were some unauthorized charges on my account and I got a call from the bank and I filed a claim to dispute the charges. The next day I get a police officer at my door saying someone with an email address linked to mine emailed for help or something. I told them no they have the wrong information or address. I finished all of the paperwork with the bank today and now 2 detectives come to my door saying this person is still sending emails and it is somehow connected to my isp.

The times these emails were sent I was not home and other bank transactions show that. So how is this possible?

I did some research on Evil twins which trick wireless users into connecting a laptop or PDA to a tainted hotspot by posing as a legitimate wi-fi provider. Once you connect to their wireless network, the evil twins can watch your online activities and steal your confidential information.

Is this a possible answer to what is going on?

The detective is telling me I will go to jail for filing the claim but I feel like I have no choice since they aren’t listening to me and I know I am not the one doing these things. Any advice on what could be going on?

This person or people has all together opened a pay pal account with an email, my bank account number and routing number, and address. All which are found on a voided check.

They have used this service with my name and address information to talk with this Doctor asking for help who is in turn calling the police to MY house. I am so confused!!!!

As the question says, erm well, are they? Anybody know?
Just wondered because I live in the UK and I’m with Pipex Homecall who are associated with Tiscali. I was doing a Hijack this log and the 017 entries (there was 2 of them) were different to that of the IP address at Shields UP. I had went to Shields UP to check my firewall was working effectively.
Wondering about this I went to – http://www.whois.sc/ & entered the IP address from my HJT log & it said AT&T world services USA.
The IP address that shields up – https://www.grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2 – said I had, when entered at the whois site said it was Tiscali UK, which is right.

So anyway after all this blathering on and me showing off my computer prowess and technical terms (I’m a bit cack aren’t I?) does anyone have any idea if AT&T world services have any thing at all to do with Tiscali. I have emailed my internet provider and I’m still waiting a reply.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Kind regards, Linda

if someone sends me an email that doesn’t make any sense
is it a way to send me a bug just to hack into my computer

The emails I get never have a link or anything other than maybe a poem or such

I replied to one with my own bounce email to only receive it back as a Non address(Bounce)
I do know about message source in the in comming mail and got the addy from that

So whats with that,
I don’t see any changes in my computer to show that it is infected in any way

Yesterday I got back two emails that apparently bounced back, but that I never sent. I’m worried some kind of virus is making me spam people!

If it matters, it is an AOL email account, and McAfee virus protection (provided with the AOL service.)

What should I do?!

I can feel that my private and personal email account and the ISP connection is being hacked. Somehow, it seems like someone is reading my private emails and my facebook account. I have already tried to install a Norton Antivirus software. But it does not help.
And this situation persist. As a result, I don’t dare to do any online banking, shopping or any other activities that require me to provide my ID numbers. I don’t feel safe on the internet.
How can this problem be resolved? Do I need to change the ISP provider or to buy a computer? But it will cost a lot of money to discontinue the ISP service or to buy a new computer!!
I am no IT specialist, so any of the reformatting procedures or the anti spy ware or actions suggested by the nice helpers will not work for me. As I do not have the know-how to carry them out! I really feel like crying!!

Since the email address I got with my broadband was impossible to remember (it was similar to, but not HDV1675385G before the @ symbol) I bought my surname as a .com so I could be firstname @ lastname . com.

Well, right now I’m getting about 1000 bounced spams every day, since the slime buckets have hijacked my domain name and are sending out their junk emails with my email address as the ‘from’ field.

Is there any way to stop them doing this?

I need to find out a way to view these files that won’t let me read the communication between him and his internet women?
We have a son together, he’s only 7 mnths old. I’m not sure he’s up to something, but I need to be able to read these messages to find out. Any free software out there or any suggestions on the technical issue?

Because of the anonimity(excuse my misspelling)and they think it’s safe because of that reason, but can they still be tracked down by law enforcement somehow, even if it’s via the internet? Kind of like similar to tracing an obscene phone caller?

My friend is with bt and has an outstanding bill with bt, so when he opens Internet explorer it displays some sort of ‘contact our billing department’ screen and he’s unable to browse the web, although he can check email, talk on vent and various other bits and pieces which leads me to believe they have only blocked some ports…. Is there a way we can tweak his computer so he can at least surf until his account gets sorted?

Thanks

p.s I’ve tried sending him proxy configurations to see if that would work, but to no avail…

I registered a domain from an ISP/Hosting company, and leased a Virtual Private Server from them to operate my website.
AOL and other mailservers won’t accept email from my website because it does not have Reverse Domain Name Server Lookup set up.

Everything I have read says this is the responsbility of the ISP that provided the IP addresses and Domain Name Servers.
The company says it is *my* responsibility, and I will have to dedicate two IP addresses and build this into my Virtual Private Server, and will have to upgrade to $160 month to handle the “extra load”.

I say it is their responsibility to set up reverse DNS look up, given that they provide the DNS servers and the two IP addresses so that the internet community can translate my domain name into an IP address.

If you do a “Who Is?” lookup, it returns two nameservers operated by the ISP, and their dedicated IPs for them. I figure a reverse lookup should lead to their servers also.

Please help me sort this out.
The first answer does not seem to help.
I have gone to www.dnsstuff.com, and there is NO reverse DNS look up registered. The people I lease my virtual server are providing the DNS servers, but they continue to claim that I have to configure my own DNS servers if I want reverse look up. They claim that the servers they are using as my Domain Servers do not provide the reverse look up function (they claim it is disabled). They claim I am the only client who is having this problem, and that it is either AOL’s fault for insisting on reverse dns lookup before acceptine email, or it is responsibility to set up reverse dns lookup if I want it.

I am going nuts with this…how can they possibly be selling hosting packages and NOT provide reverse dns lookup???

How could any of the sites they host ever send anything to AOL? Surely AOL is not the only big server to reject mail coming from domains that cannot be looked up in reverse.

I do not know why they refuse to just do it. for me
How can they sell me a hosting package that does not allow sending email to anybody on AOL?
